Yoga Etiquette

LINKS: beginnerslifestyleasanas (postures)benefits

The important thing is the attitude -
a big heart and a small ego.

When performing the asanas, try to concentrate on each movement - the process of moving into a pose is just as important as the final posture.

Remember that you should not strain or continue holding any yoga posture if it causes pain.

Yoga is not a competitive sport, and the extent of the stretch is less important than the technique.

You will need comfortable clothes, an open mind, accepting nature and a sticky mat. Mats can be purchased at the studio. We carry the Eco Yoga Mat which is all natural, biodegradable and PVC-free, along with the Harmony Mat by Jade Yoga and Earth Elements from Hugger Mugger. Inexpensive mats are available online and at Target. We will supply a limited number of Earth Element Mats for studio use. We will also offer a 20% discount on all products when purchasing 10 or more classes (discount good day of purchase).

Signing In
• Arrive 10 minutes early to get yourself signed in.
• Signing in for every class is essential, for safety reasons, and so that we can compensate our teachers according to class attendance.

Respect for the Studios
• Turn off all cell phones and pagers (or just leave them at home!)
• Remove shoes before entering the practice space .
• Roll mats out quietly.

Class Etiquette
• Please arrive 10 minutes before class begins.
• If you are taking from a teacher who is new to you, inform them of any injuries or conditions.
• When you're waiting outside, please wait quietly as there may be a class in progress. Yes, they can hear you!
• If you are late for unavoidable reasons, wait outside the practice space until the teacher invites you in. Then please join class quietly.
• Be still during chanting and meditation. This is NOT the time to find your spot.
• Move your mat to make space in crowded classes.

Cleanliness
• Please observe basic hygiene when attending yoga class.
• Refrain from perfumes and oils as many people are allergic.
• Stack props neatly.
• Please wear a t-shirt. This protects the props and also makes it easier for teachers to make adjustments.
• If you sweat, please bring a towel.
• Please do not use our blankets to wipe sweat from the floor or your body.
