Yoga Teacher Training & Advanced Studies

Yoga Alliance Registered
Washington State Licensed
200 Hour Certification Course

Practice, Learn, Teach, Inspire

Starts: January 8, 2010 (apply now)

This course will be held at Intent Yoga in Enumclaw in our amazingly tranquil and beautiful studio.

Date: October 31, 2009
From Jean Hoiland (studio owner and instructor)

Dear Yoga Student,

Several years ago I found myself back in my old hometown of Enumclaw practicing yoga at the Wellness Center. After about a year of me continually asking if I could use the room to practice they asked me if I would like to teach. Since I didn't have any training I looked up yoga teacher training and decided to take a course from Richard Satchel in Seattle.

During the training I found out exactly how much I did not know and how ill equipped I felt to be teaching yoga. Then Richard said something I will never forget. He said "Just teach what you know and be passionate about it". I was inspired to learn more and began reading all kinds of yoga books. I have now been teaching 5 years and can't imagine doing anything else.

If not for that simple request to teach a few yoga classes I may never have discovered my true passion and the priceless reward of helping people heal, transform and change.

Why attend YTT & Advanced Studies?
Become Inspired – learn how to live life more fully, with more passion and free from the baggage of bad relationships, negative self talk and regrets.
—Deepen Your Practice – come to know the brilliance of your body, the power of your mind and your boundless spirit in such depth that the teacher within you will evolve effortlessly.
—Heal Yourself – When I first came to yoga I had been in pain for 5 years from a car accident. Yoga helped heal my body and spirit. It helped me let go of unhealthy relationships and live with more joy, gratitude and love.
—Transform – go deeper within your life, bridge the gap between the life you yearn for and the life you are living. Let go of the struggle and correct the imbalances that disrupt your true potential. Let your body unfold.

Our Training is Different!
Intent Yoga Teacher Training Course will not only help you deepen your practice, we will teach you the skills needed to become a yoga teacher. The training will be fun, yet-structured starting with a firm foundation in yoga history, philosophy, and anatomy.

You will learn how to speak up, lead a class, and inspire students. You’ll discover how to use body language, how to adjust students, and how to create a space where people feel comfortable to be open and grow in yoga.

The process is very challenging, but the rewards are huge!

Here’s a sample of the skills you’ll walk away with as an Intent Yoga Teacher Training graduate:

Intro to Yoga Series
You will have the opportunity to observe and assist an Intro to Yoga Series. We will provide you with handouts, outlines and instruction on putting together your own series.

Public Speaking 101
Are you quiet, shy, terrified at the idea of getting up in front of 10-20 people to lead a class? No problem.

We are here to help you fearlessly lead and inspire others in the practice of yoga. No desire to teach? You will become fearless in your own practice as you learn to take care of yourself. It's not as difficult as your mind is making it.

Modify, Adapt & Adjust
Thinking on your feet is a huge part of being a yoga teacher. Sometimes you’ll need to use your voice to keep control of the class, and other times you may need to physically assist a student in and out of a posture. During the training, you’ll learn who and when to help, and how and when to adapt or modify what you’re teaching so everyone has a safe and uplifting experience. This is the real “art of teaching.”

Bandhas, Chakras & Pranyama
There’s more to learn than just yoga poses! Throughout the training, we’ll practice powerful yogic techniques for cleansing and purifying the body. You will learn about the energetic body and locks (bandhas). Breathing exercises (pranayama) to soothe your nerves and focus your mind. We will sit in stillness and explore the most challenging yoga practice of all (meditation).

History & Philosophy
Learn traditional yoga philosophy from a contemporary, practical approach. As a teacher it is important to know the roots and belief system and how to adapt for todays needs and expectations.

Anatomy of Yoga
When we practice yoga, we become hyper-aware of our bodies, our imbalances, and our strengths and weaknesses. The study of anatomy, specifically as it relates to yoga, will help you gain a deeper understanding of what’s happening beneath the skin, making it easier to avoid injury, modify poses safely, and teach with confidence.

The Business of Yoga
During Module II of the program you’ll learn how to write a yoga resume, best photos to use, how to apply for teaching positions, and where to look for work.

Not sure if you are ready to teach?
You don't have to, but the best time to begin any training is when you are the most excited and passionate.

You don't have to be able to do advanced poses or pronounce each pose name in sanskrit. All it takes is a desire and willingness to learn and share the gift of yoga with others.
